Cressi Big Eye evo Mask

The Cressi Big Eye Evolution is my new favourite mask! I recently bought one in a trip to Honduras and used it for a couple of PADI instructor courses before fun diving with it in Utila and Roatan for 3 months.

I found the fit to be very comfortable, even after an hour or more of wearing it underwater, and it provided an impressively expansive field of vision! I haven’t had a chance to use it whilst drysuit diving yet but I can tell that the inverted teardrop lens design is going to help a great deal when it comes to downward visibility.

I feel a lot of divers, particularly beginners, would find this a very useful feature especially when wearing a drysuit, hood and gloves. Cold water diving in all the additional equipment required can greatly reduce flexibility, sight, and sense of touch for some people. This can lead to an uncomfortable dive due to task loading, because it is harder to locate equipment, especially if the configuration is new, or it’s rented and unfamiliar.

Alongside being able to see more of your body and kit the mask is very easy to clear of water because of its low internal volume. I am aware this can often be a problem and cause of anxiety for some divers. Finally, the mask would easily fit prescription lenses if required.

You can buy the Cressi Big Eye Evolution from several retailers here in the UK at an affordable price. I would encourage those that have not used it to give it a try, particularly if you are new to diving.
